Fact #2
John McCain's mother is Frances Bavier. She is best known for her role as "Aunt Bee" on the popular television series "The Andy Griffith Show." She was 34 when John was born. He can be seen on the show several times as an extra, usually coming out of a grocery store or walking on the sidewalk. He also played the part of George the television repairman (a bit part in episode 140), and as the bus driver when Barney's cousin Virgil comes to Mayberry to visit. He was able to do this while serving in the Navy because at the time, he was stationed at the nearby Los Angeles Naval Air Station.
Fact #3
John McCain was born in Panama while his father was stationed there. Usually, military children born overseas are considered American born as long as they are born in a military hospital. However, on the day of John McCain's birth, his parents were with friends at park outside of base. His parents were unable to make it into the Naval Hospital and were forced to go to the nearest facility which was a Panamanian hospital and not one run by te United States Navy. John was born in this hospital and not the Naval Hospital, making him Panamanian by nationality. If elected, John McCain will serve illegally as president because the constitution requires that the president be american born, though it does not require this of Senators and members of the House.
Fact #4
John McCain was never shot down in a combat situation. His plane crashed when he was conducting a training mission while stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawai'i. His plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean north of the Island of Oahu. McCain ejected but the wind carried him south and closer to the island. Records indicate that at an altitude of about 250 feet, several of the parachute cords snapped, rendering the parachute ineffective. McCain, still strapped into his seat, landed on the beach at North Shore, breaking several bones in his body. He also broke both collarbones which caused exstensive muscle damage. The muscle damage is why he cannot raise his arms. Other pilots out on the mission with him sent a mayday back to the Pearl Harbor Air Traffic Control Tower who contacted the Army MedEvac unit out of Fort Shafter. The MedEvac Helicopter landed in a nearby beach parking area and transported McCain to Tripler Army Medical Center (pictured below).
